CAIRO: Clashes erupted outside the New Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday as the infamous Battle of the Camel trial resumed. According to reports, the clashes were brief, but highlights the tension growing between opposing forces in the country. “It was pretty intense for a bit, but it did subside and I don't think anyone was seriously injured,” said on eyewitness to Bikyamasr.com. In court, prosecutors submitted new evidence against those accused of killing protesters on February 2 and 3 this year during Egypt's 18 days of protests that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak. The new material includes a number of CDs and a video, first shown on ONTV that reveals the extent of the violence perpetrated by the defendants, prosecutors said. The video, prosecutors say, implicates Ahmed Fadally, the president of the Assembly of Muslim Youth. The video taken by a Mubarak supporter shows Fadaly on the 6th of October Bridge and in central Cairo's Abdel Moneim Reyad Square, smoking cigarettes and talking to an alleged Mubarak supporter. During the February attack on demonstrators, hired “thugs” were riding camels and horses, carrying various weapons such as swords and knives, randomly attacking and killing people. Hundreds were killed and hundreds more were injured in Tahrir during these two days. BM
