Carrier pushes green agenda with new education program
Published in Bikya Masr on 07 - 10 - 2011

Carrier, the world's leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions and a part of United Technologies Corp. (UTX), recognizes that well-trained green building professionals are at the core of transforming the built environment for a more sustainable future. With buildings consuming 40 percent of energy use around the world today, the company has developed a comprehensive educational initiative to nurture the green building movement on every corner of the globe.
Carrier's global educational initiative has trained thousands of industry professionals over the last year from the Middle East to the United States and Europe to Latin America, using a combination of local classroom instruction, self-study materials, and online Web-based systems, providing users with the training method and schedule that best suits their needs.
Carrier's educational legacy is reflected in the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability. The institute bundles the company's body of green building knowledge and expertise into a single place focused on serving those that seek sustainability education. More than 50 courses are offered related to sustainability and professional development, technical learning and application tools.
“Carrier invests in innovative technologies to lower carbon emissions, and building owners are faced with similar decisions as they invest in products,” said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security Systems. “That's why we believe in providing global green building education. With knowledge, comes power – and enormous opportunity to change the building landscape.”
Carrier is a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as well as the Argentina, China, India, Singapore and France Green Building Councils. The company is the first company to license USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) curriculum. The company has more than 400 LEED Accredited Professionals, and provides green building training all over the globe. In the last month alone, Carrier has offered green building training in Brazil and France with other sessions planned for the Middle East, China and India.
Rounding out Carrier's educational initiatives are local, regional and global customer events, such as the Global Engineering Conference, scheduled for March 18-20, 2012 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Company-sponsored events such as this bring together some of the world's thought leaders to create dialogue within the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) community to rethink the way the industry leverages new technologies and engineering practices.
