The United States Open tennis championships are set to get underway after nearly two lost days, although after warming up, a light mist continued to cause further delays. Earlier in the day, three men's fourth round matches were suspended after just 20 minutes on court. Instead of returning to the court, the USTA has chosen instead to play the four women's quarterfinal matches. Leading those four matches is American #28 seed Serena Williams, the favorite to win her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows, will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Aurthur Ashe stadium. Italian Flavia Pennetta, who ousted the three seed Maria Sharapova last week, will play shock quarterfinalist Angelique Kerber. Also on tap will be top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki takes on Andrea Petkova, and 9th seeded Australian Samantha Stosur faces second seed Vera Zvonareva. Rain is also expected sporadically on Thursday, which could see the men's draw continue to struggle to get going. BM
