NAIROBI: Kenyan pay-television users of DStv are soon going to be able to access their services through their computers, iPads and other mobile devices after the operator decided to give its customers a new means to access their subscriptions. The move is aimed at boosting the company's marketshare, which has been receiving increased pressure from rival pay-TV companies in recent months. “It is definitely going to be a good move to give users a chance to move toward going mobile with TV,” said Khalil Shebali of Kenya's national television channel. “I definitely think it will revolutionize television in this country.” DStv also announced last week that it would launch a new decoder that will give customers the ability to use their services on the multiple platforms. The company also said that it would help their appeal to middle-class potential customers. Subscribers, according to company press statements, will pay Sh440 per month to access the services through mobile gadgets, which will be the cheapest means for pay television in the country. “The development and introduction of new technology is key to ensuring that DStv subscribers get more enjoyment and control of their television viewing at competitive rates,” said Stephen Isaboke, MultiChoice Kenya General Manager. He continued to say that the pricing will help the company increase its overall base as smartphones and other devices are increasingly becoming more popular. BM
