CAIRO: Former police officer and special guard for the Egyptian Cabinet has physically assaulted Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Ali el-Selmy's secretary inside the Cabinet headquarters in Cairo on Monday. An investigation is currently taking place, according to state-run al-Akhbar newspaper. Tamer Amin, the former officer, attacked secretary Amal Ramadan, after he asked her to move from the corridor for the prime minister's delegation while on their way to a meeting of the Supreme Council of Energy. Ramadan said she asked him to speak politely and then it turned into a verbal argument. Amin came back after the delegation went to their meeting and attacked Ramadan by slapped her repeatedly in the face and kicking at her legs as well as swearing at her. She was rescued from him by three guards who intervened to stop the violence against the woman. Ramadan has presented an official complaint against the Amin, which is supported by eye witness statements who saw the beating. So far no news about a suspension for Amin has been reported, however once an official investigation begins, it is expected that he would be barred from work. BM
