CAIRO: At least two people have reportedly died and dozens others injured after masked gunmen attacked a police station Friday evening in al-Arish in Egypt's northern Sinai peninsula, the state-run MENA news agency reported. Al-Jazeera reported that an eye witness in the city said that as many as 10 have died in the violence. The attackers are yet to be arrested and state TV reported that the police are still searching for the assailants. The gunmen were terrorizing the city prior to attacking a local police station and exchanging fire with officers, which killed Nasser Ghoniem Abdel Salam, a 13-year-old boy and Muslem Hassan Quidar, a 70-year-old man, who were caught in the crossfire. The two died soon after arriving at a local hospital, suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Among the injured are two police officers and a number of the attackers. Eye witnesses said the gunmen were on motorbikes and were waving a black flag that read “no God but God.” The gunmen were spotted driving around the coastal city earlier in the day firing shots into the air.
