CAIRO: At least 231 people were injured after an unknown number of assailants attacked a march from Cairo's Tahrir Square to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) headquarters on Saturday night, the country's ministry of health confirmed. Some 39 people have been taken to local hospitals with more severe injuries. The violence erupted after a peaceful march through downtown Cairo of a few thousand arrived in the Abbassiya neighborhood of the Egyptian capital. Bikyamasr.com witnessed rock throwing and molotov cocktails being hurled in the direction of the protesters. Local television channels also showed footage of residents on nearby rooftops tossing rocks and large stones at the protesters below. The demonstrators' march to the SCAF headquarters was to continue their calls for greater reforms and an end to military rule of Egypt and to demand no more military trials for civilians. By late in the evening, the clashes had subsided, but reports began to circulate that a number of protesters had been arrested, including prominent rights activist and former Amnesty International worker Amr Gharbia.
