CAIRO: The latest January 25 martyr has passed away in a Cairo hospital. According to medical sources, Mostafa Ahmed Hassan, 35, died on Saturday after he was shot in the head by police during the 18 days of protests that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak. Hassan was shot on January 28 in Alexandria and was moved in early May to the Qasr al-Aini hospital in Cairo after his condition deteriorated. The death was due to the development of an abscess in the brain that caused complications, ultimately leading to his death. Mostafa's death sparked the crowds in central Cairo's Tahrir Square, who organized a number of marches around the square asking for the speedy trials of those responsible for the death of protesters. Tahrir protesters were chanting “the cowered cowered and the brave brave and we will die in the square” and “vengeance for the martyrs.” Activists said they were preparing for Mostafa's funeral to be held at Tahrir later in the day with the participation of all protesters present at the ongoing sit-in that has been continuing since July 8.
