CAIRO: An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) delegation was in Egypt this week to look into the country's first nuclear power station. According to local reports, the UN atomic energy agency was reviewing the Dabaa station as a result of changes made by Egypt following the Japanese Fukushima nuclear plant leak earlier this year. Fouad Ahmed Saeed, director of the Dabaa nuclear site, told Egypt's al-Youm al-Saba'a newspaper that the IAEA delegation came at the request of Egypt's Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis to review and inspect the station. Saeed added that the “ministry is working on creating shares, but it is unknown when the shares will be released on the market.” He added that implementation of the nuclear program has been delayed until after Egypt holds presidential elections. Egypt's ruling military council decided to suspend the Egyptian nuclear program until the presidential election and the establishment of an elected legislature. Parliamentary elections have been pushed back to Novemeber, but it is unknown when the presidential election will be held. BM
