The Nigerian Army said that it has begun looking into retooling its Information and Communication Technology curricula infrastructure so as to make the Armed Forces meet up with contemporary challenges. The move comes after a bomb blast in the country killed dozens and left the IT sector wondering on the state of the military's infrastructure. Director of Telecommunications, Nigerian Army Signal, Arakan Barracks, Apapa, Brig. General Ibrahim Sani in an interview with Daily Trust at a capacity building and job creation roundtable forum organized by the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) said that the military must look at new ways of meeting the challenges it faces in terms of IT security. According to Sani, the curriculum review “was targeted at repositioning the Nigerian Army for 21st century security challenges because of the global changes in the form of attacks and enmity on nations.” He continued to say that the curriculum review “will assist the army to achieve its vision of transforming the army to always be at alert for contemporary challenges facing the world and Nigeria in recent times.” The “Nigerian Army has been transforming. It is part of the transformation. It started last year and it is ongoing. With the situation in the country now, we are putting in place more effort towards retooling of telecom and communications tools to address what the current situation in the country and in the world portends.” BM
