CAIRO: A group of Bedouin detainees have been released, Egyptian authorities announced on Wednesday during a meeting with the families of the detainees, held by Governor Abdel Wahab Mabrouk The Governor stressed that the records of other detainees are being studied before their release, and added that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, currently in charge of Egypt's administration, ordered the release of 31 persons who were sentenced on criminal charges by military courts. Local newspapers quoted Mabrouk as saying newly appointed Justice Minister Mohamed Abdel Aziz al-Gendy has agreed to grant pardon to Bedouin prisoners who have completed half of their sentences in addition to those who suffer from health problems. He added that a list of political detainees will be examined as a prelude for their release, following instructions by the Minister of Interior Mansour Essawy. BM
