CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's largest opposition group, announced its intention to establish its first political party, naming it “Freedom and Justice Party.” The news was revealed in a statement by the group's Guidance Bureau, the highest executive body, and published on the group's official website. Mohammed Badie, the Brotherhood's Supreme Guide, said that the party membership would be open to all Egyptians who accept or come to terms with the party's program, policies and directions, even Coptic Christians. Badie said the Party's founding members board will be announced soon, within the coming days, and they will take necessary legal steps following the preparations stage. He noted that the move is a response to the wishes, hopes and aspirations of Egyptians for a brighter future and the restoration of the country's prestige and leadership role, besides the directions and policies of the Brotherhood which is decided by their General Shura Council, which encourages the founding of a political party. He added that relevant institutions within the Muslim Brotherhood were assigned to work on the final formula of the party program, and the regulations and policies required for the program to be established. These steps will be taken in consultation with the group's Shura Council, and will be announced at the right time. BM
