CAIRO: Egypt's information and communication technology sector grew by 12 percent in 2010, said minister Tarek Kamel. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Tarek Kamel attributed the growth to the development of the mobile phone as well as internet sectors, according to local reports. In 2010, the mobile phone market grew by 20 percent, on the internet front, the rate of 20.3 million consumers, as this figure received a significant boost with MCIT deciding that both handset and USB internet devices would be included in the definition of an internet user. The minister said – in a speech before the American Chamber of Commerce during the visit of the delegation of Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Egypt – “This success is driven by development programs, led by the Ministry of Communications of the Development Authority, the technology industry and the Centre for technological innovation and incubators and the Institute of Information Technology and human development programs.” BM
