CAIRO: 45 percent of Telecom Egypt revenues come from Vodafone Egypt, which is the same ratio of the contribution of the Egyptian telecommunications operator in the mobile phone industry, according to Engineer Hatem Dewidar, the Executive Chief of Telecom Egypt Company. During June 2010, Telecom Egypt announced talks with the Vodafone Group to acquire its 55 percent stake in Vodafone Egypt were halted. Both parties, in order to preserve the stability of the company, preferred to keep the existing partnership between them. A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunications said that the number of mobile subscribers in Egypt reached 65.5 million in October 2010, an increase of 23.6 percent from the same period last year. The ministry expects more than 80 percent of Egyptians will start 2011 with mobile phones. In October 2009, Egypt's three mobile operators – Etisalat Egypt, Mobinil and Vodafone Egypt – had announced having 52.978 million subscribers. The number of subscribers for Vodafone Egypt alone reached 29.4 million for the same period, while subscribers for Mobinil reached 28.6 million and Etisalat had 7.5 million subscribers, the ministry said on its website. Mobinil said it reached 30 million subscribers on 29 December 2010. BM
