Manar Ammar from our staff is sure that she stumbled upon the greatest and most ethical burger in the world at Cafe Blossom, New York City. A homey sense comes upon you once you enter Cafe Blossom in the Upper West Side. This intimate, soft lit café already has a big following from both vegan and non-vegan New Yorkers. In my short visit to the city, I have to admit that I found myself going back to Blossom more often than anywhere else. In full disclosure, I also ordered from them a couple of times to my hotel room. They are that addictive. Their menu offers an ethical take on many traditional meat dishes, but exceeds the latter by miles in flavor and atmosphere, with some raw options to please everyone. The first time there, I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich for lunch and my husband ordered the soy bacon cheese burger. I was skeptical of fake meat, but all those worries flow out the window once I had a bite of his sandwich. The burger comes with caramelized onions, soy bacon, tapioca cheddar, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, chipotle aioli and served on a sesame bun. It was not hard for your taste buds to fall “head over heels” for that burger, or go nuts for the fried sweet potatoes that accompanies it. To flush down that small American miracle, I had a green juice made with spinach, cucumber, apple and ginger … and yes, it also tasted great. Café Blossom is part of the Blossom chain that includes the gourmet Blossom restaurant (was chosen as New York's best vegetarian restaurant by Time Out New York 2008, 2009) and the wine and chocolate bar Cocoa V. For an ethical eater in New York there are a lot of really good options but when it comes for a “killer” burger you must try this one out. ** For more information on Cafe Blossom, go to their website BM
