CAIRO: A 25-year-old woman has been arrested by Egyptian police in the popular resort town of El Gouna this week on charges of polygamy after her alleged 7th husband discovered she had another 6 husbands. According to local Egyptian press, the woman would move from one home after another after she “had lost interest” in the current husband. According to leading independent daily Al-Masry Al-Youm, the woman, whose identity was not revealed, had married 7 men in successive weeks and would move her belongings from one home to another each time. That is, until the most recent man discovered what was happening. She met all of them in a cafe where she was employed. Police reports confirmed that the woman married each man every six days. “After the weddings, she would lose interest in them and would begin a hunt for another husband. Once she was remarried, she would take all her belongings to her new husband's home,” the newspaper reported. The woman claims all her husbands were happy with her, even if their family bliss lasted only one week, the newspaper reported Monday. In Egypt, men are permitted to marry up to four wives at once under Islamic Sharia, but women are not permitted to indulge in polygamy. It is unclear whether the woman was simultaneously arrested to the men, or if she would divorce them before marrying another. BM
