ROME: As the World Cup approaches, Brazilian football star, and former FIFA World Player of the Year, Kaka , is kicking off a coaching campaign for the World Food Program (WFP), aimed at teaching young people the importance of fighting hunger and the best tactics to help the one billion people on earth who don't have enough to eat each day. The campaign, which is supported by a television advert, shows Kaka talking to young players from the sidelines about how to win the match against hunger. According to Kaka, the first line of defense is to ensure that the nearly 66 million children who go hungry every day get a meal in school. “Join me in making this cup, the World's Cup,” said Kaka. Through WFP‘s “Fill the Cup” campaign, WFP provides a nutritious school meal to hungry children for just Euro 20 cents a day – a meal that helps build the next generation by giving children a healthy start in life. “Together we can beat hunger. We have seen how school meal programs are helping countries like Brazil make hunger history,” said WFP Executive Director, Josette Sheeran, who recently witnessed the success of Brazil in dramatically reducing child malnutrition and deaths through its “Zero Hunger” program. “What if the world's next soccer star never makes it to the pitch, because hunger weakened his body and stole his future?” said Kaka. “I believe that hunger is unacceptable – that's why I support WFP.” WFP/BM
