Sudan's Water Resources Minister Osama Abdullah al-Hassan arrived in Cairo on Wednesday morning for talks on the repercussions of Ethiopia's diversion of the Blue Nile to build a new dam. The Sudanese minister will discuss with Egyptian officials the effect of the Nile's diversion on Egypt's and Sudan's share of water. Ethiopia began diverting a stretch of the Nile on Tuesday to make way for the hydroelectric Grand Renaissance Dam. A tripartite committee comprising representatives from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia is expected to issue today a report on yesterday's events.
