Toyota Motor has resumed all operations in China, after protests over a territorial dispute caused disruptions for Japanese businesses in the country. Last week, Japanese car company showrooms were attacked, and some production halted. The demonstrations were against Japan buying islands in the East China Sea, that both countries claim. Other Japanese businesses started resuming operations at the end of last week as protests eased. The protests were sparked by the Japanese purchase of the islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. Thousands of protesters were on the streets in many Chinese cities. Showrooms attacked The eastern port city of Qingdao is where Japan's largest carmakers, Toyota, Nissan and Honda, all reported attacks on dealerships and suspended production at plants. Reports said Honda had resumed some production in China on Friday. Other Japanese companies affected include the electronics company Sony, and the shopping chain stores Aeon and Uniqlo Apparel, a subsidiary of Fast Retailing. BBC
