Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 11 - 07 - 2019

The International Organisation for Migration in Egypt (IOM) has held a press conference to announce the appointment of Egyptian star actors Nelly Karim and Asser Yassin as goodwill ambassadors for the organisation.
Through their wide presence in online and offline media, and as goodwill ambassadors, Asser and Nelly will advocate for migrant rights, raise awareness about the positive impact of regular migration and the risks of irregular migration, while promoting safe, dignified and regular migration.
"A young Syrian woman came to Egypt seeking security. When she arrived in Egypt 1923, Saad Pasha Zaghloul gave her the right to enter and stay in Egypt. They lived in Cairo and her children entered Egyptian public schools and showed exceptional talents in music and singing, I am talking about Farid Al-Atrash and his sister Asmahan, and I am sure there are thousands like them among the immigrants. Nelly and Asser are not famous only for their talent, but also for their humanity,” said IOM ´s chief of Mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Laurent De Boeck.
“They are aware of the potential that comes with their fame to make a positive contribution to the community, and I am confident that they are good ambassadors for the IOM in Egypt that will contribute to a deeper and better understanding of migrants and their communities.”
While Karim said: “I am honoured and pleased to be appointed goodwill ambassador of the IOM in Egypt along with my colleague and my dear friend Asser Yasser. I am very excited to work on projects and campaigns that raise public awareness about this important issue and support the immigrant community in Egypt.”
For his part, Yassin said: “There is no weakness without a strength , no morning without night, no white without black. I exist because he exists. If we really understand the significance of this definition we will all definitely be in a better world. I was raised as a Saidy (Upper Egyptian) and I know the meaning of dignity and I promise as Asser Yassin to preserve the dignity of immigrants.
