3 Africans snatch Premier League Golden Boot 2019
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 13 - 05 - 2019

Unlike the World Cup where the Golden Boot is decided by assists if a number of scorers are level, the Premier League instead shares it between the players.
The two African nationals Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon) scored final-day goals to share the Golden Boot with the Egyptian -African Mohamed Salah.

Salah also won the prize last season.
Aubameyang's double for Arsenal at Burnley means he joins Salah and his Liverpool team-mate Mane, who scored against Wolves, on 22 goals.
At kickoff of the last round of games, Salah was the sole contender for the award. Mane scored Liverpool's two goals on the final day to go joint top.
It happened previously when Chris Sutton, Michael Owen and Dion Dublin shared it in 1997-98 and and then again in 1998-99 when Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, Michael Owen and Dwight Yorke shared the spoils.
This year Premier League top scorers are:
Sadio Mane (Liverpool) – 22 goals, 1 assist
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 22 goals, 8 assists
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) – 22 goals, 5 assists
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) – 21 goals, 8 assists
Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – 18 goals, 4 assists
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – 17 goals, 11 assists
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) – 17 goals, 4 assists
Gabon forward Aubameyang who scored twice after the interval at Turf Moor said: “I share this trophy with two other guys I like, great players and African. We are representing Africa, that's cool.
“I am happy we won, and I am sharing this [Golden Boot] trophy with two other guys I like. My team-mates knew about the Golden Boot, I said nothing. I did not want them to play and only focus on me. I am a team player.”
However, Liverpool grossed 97 points but failed to win the league as winners Manchester City got one point more to retain their title. Arsenal on the other hand managed to finish fifth in Unai Emery's first season in charge.
Liverpool and Arsenal have final season fixtures in continental competitions. Liverpool will face Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid while Arsenal faces Chelsea in the Europa League finals in Baku.
