Siemens to digitalise Egypt's Al Ezz Dekheila Steel with industrial cloud tech
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 20 - 03 - 2019

In a new step towards digitalising the future of Egyptian industry, Siemens announced today it has signed a contract with Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Company Alexandria SAE (EZDK) to deploy the company's leading digital industrial solutions across EZDK‘s diverse steel production assets.
Under the agreement, Siemens will provide EZDK with Siemens' Drive Train Analytics system (DTA) along with medium voltage motors, marking the first deployment of DTA in the Middle East.
To maintain its leading competitive position as one of the largest steel producers in the Middle East region, EZDK is working to leverage the opportunities offered by digitalization and innovations in data analytics and automation to strengthen the company's position and pave the way for developing new technologies and products.
Sayed Ibrahim is Direct Reduction Division Directorof EZDK, said: "Egypt is looking into the deployment of new technology and digitalizing the industrial landscape in the country. We are committed to the development of the Egyptian metal sector, as a major pillar of the Egyptian economy. Our contract with Siemens is an important step and we look forward to working together to develop and utilize the latest digital solutions for our industry."
The amount of data available for metal production has increased exponentially in recent years. Today, steel manufacturers strive to reduce operating risk and improve reliability
at the lowest sustainable cost, by predicting and preventing asset failures.
"The most important driver of competitveness among metal manufacturers has traditionally been pricing, but now top value-creators are standing out by how effectively they capture and leverage data," said Emad Ghaly, CEO of Siemens in Egypt. "We are working with our customers to embrace the digital age, and are pleased to partner with a key manufacturer such as EZDK to showcase the various benefits offered by digitalization."
Siemens DTA is a comprehensive solution that helps solve these challenges by providing condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis and inspection. The data-driven solutions also facilitate the development of asset strategies that maximize reliability and availability, minimize risk and cost, and dramatically reduce unplanned downtime by predicting equipment issues before they occur.
As a cloud-based solution, DTA uses continuously improving algorithms designed to help equipment operators have full transparency of their assets to increase reliability and availability, minimize costs and reduce operational risk, as well as decrease spending on unnecessary and unplanned maintenance.
In addition, DTA is designed to be connected to Siemens' cloud-based, open operating system for the Internet of Things (IoT), MindSphere. MindSphere connects physical products, plants, systems and machines tothe digital world, harnessing the wealth of data generated by the IoT with advanced analytics.
