The volume of telecommunications market has amounted to EGP 35 billion in 2011, which represents 3% of the gross national product. Eng. Mohamed Nawawy, CEO of Telecom Egypt, stated that the company has 8 million permanent customers, adding that it possesses the largest share of the market of fixed internet services, or 60% of the market. He also noted that Telecom Egypt provides services for 1.3 million fixed internet subscribers via its subsidiary "TE Data." He added that Telecom Egypt's revenues have reached about EGP 4 billion, which does not exceed 13.3% of the total revenues, he said. He stressed that his company should be granted a virtual license for providing integrated services. He emphasized that obtaining a virtual network is the fastest way for joining the mobile market, refuting that the market experiences a state of "saturation," highlighting that the market acquires half a million new subscribers annually. Telecom Egypt seeks to achieve the maximum degree of benefit by providing both fixed and mobile services, he said, referring that the volume of expenses spent on land line phones amount to about 1/8 of the total expenses by individuals, while mobile phones represent 7%.
