Four Russian airlines have asked the Federal Agency for Air Transport (FAAT) to allow the resumption of flights between Egypt and Russia, the Russian news agency TASS has reported Thursday. The four airlines that made the request are Yamal Airlines, Azur Air, Pegas Fly and Nordwind, according to a statement from FAAT, which supervises aviation in Russia. The airlines requested permission to restart flights from Moscow to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, TASS reported. A joint committee of Russian ministries is due to hold a meeting, headed by the Transport Ministry, in which a decision will be made on whether to allow the airlines to resume flights, the news agency added. Flights between Egypt and Russia have been suspended since October 2015 following the downing of a Russian passenger plane in Sinai that killed all 224 people on board. Moscow dispatched many security delegations to inspect security measures at Egyptian airports since the downing of the Russian plane. Egypt and Russia agreed in September 2016 to develop an agreement that would state security and safety measures agreed on between the two countries before the resumption of flights.
