The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady met Friday with Hong Kong Deputy Government Chief Information Officer Victor Lam, PCCW Global Group Managing Director Alex Arena and other officials specialized in networking, consulting and big data centers.
The meeting took place upon conclusion of the minister's official visit to discuss means of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of the fourth generation (4G), technology parks, outsourcing projects and other issues of common interest.
During the meeting, ElKady reviewed the latest developments in the Egyptian ICT sector, especially the determination of the Egyptian government to launch the 4G licenses. This is in addition to discussing means of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the fields of financial inclusion, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, e-commerce, cyber security and regulations governing communications, whether in Egypt or Hong Kong to enhance and support the protection of data privacy.
ElKady invited Lam to visit Egypt and inspect the technology parks projects which Egypt began recently to establish in some governorates to develop the spirit of creativity, innovation, training and qualifying young people and providing excellent job opportunities for them in the ICT sector.
Discussions also tackled means of cooperation to support the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) plan to develop the ICT sector by introducing the 4G licenses, where the Chinese company expressed its willingness to cooperate with the Egyptian government in this regard by leveraging the long expertise of the company, and cooperating in the fields of databases.
On his part, ElKady ascertained that the state is moving forward in its right way to build the new Egypt, highlighting that ICT will be a key player in the country's evolution and development in the coming years at the economic and social levels. He pointed out that the meetings he held during his visit to China brought about serious cooperation and strategic and significant partnerships between the two countries, which will result in exchanging expertise and injecting investments in the ICT sector.
The meeting was attended by Telecom Egypt (TE) CEO Tamer Gadallah, TE Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Commercial Affairs Ahmed Osama and TE Vice President for Technical Affairs Mohammed Ismail.
