The US-based Western Digital Corporation (WD) has seized 55 percent of external hard disks market in Egypt, sales director- India, Middle East and Africa Khalid Wani said Tuesday. Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad, Wani stated that the continuous growth in relying on smart phones and tablets has created large volume of data that depends on the external hard disks. Western Digital's emphasise is placed on educational programs, especially Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; Basic Needs Programs, especially those leading to economic self-sufficiency; and Civic Programs, with an emphasis on environmental protection and community volunteer projects. Wani made these remarks on the sidelines of WD's participation in the 35th edition of the Gitex Technology Week, which is taking place from October 18 to 22 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This year's theme is ‘The Internet Future of Everything", revolving around the pillars of innovation, connected cloud, big data, mobility and security, along with the return of the Google CSI Lab. The five-day event is expected to draw more than 140,000 visitors from over 140 countries. More than 3,600 companies from over 62 countries have signed up for the event. Director Wani stated that the demand on external hard disks in the Egyptian market has witnessed high growth rates within the last two years. He clarified that those rates have increased firm's volume of sales by which Egypt has become the most growing market among other countries in which WD is working.
