Huawei offers new ICT Solutions for Rail and Metro in Egypt
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 21 - 04 - 2015

Huawei, a global ICT solutions provider offering solutions for more than 87000 kilometers of railway and metro lines around the world, showcased how its technology innovations can improve passenger experience, maximize efficiency and enhance safety operations at the Future Rail and Metro Summit in Cairo.
"With the development of the Egypt, the strategic importance of the rail and metro sector is rising. The challenges of running a large rail and metro network are immense as operators strive to offer the best passenger experiences while ensuring safety and security. Huawei connected with industry leaders and railway operators to highlight how our technology solutions can help shape the future of transport and develop a better connected railway and metro in Egypt", said He Lei, head of transportation business development of Huawei Egypt Office.
Huawei showcased on its GSM-R solution, a reliable and secure communication system. GSM-R delivers cost-efficient and a seamless transmission of voice and data communication between the operations and command centers (OCC) station, trackside and on-board systems. Huawei has rolled-out GSM-R across more than 28 000 km of railway worldwide, and achieved a 61% market share of GSM-R contracts awarded since 2011.
The ICT company also showcased its range of eLTE 4G technology that is set to enhance the reliability and efficiency by bearing CBTC, PIS, CCTV and Trunking services in a single redundant network. Compared to a 3-network combination of Tetra and WiFi, eLTE network saves CAPEX and OPEX with no risks from WiFi hot-spot interference and WiFi lacking of QoS. With a strong dedicated mobile broadband network for train-to-ground voice, data, and video transmissions, railway and metro operators will be able to offer advanced features to increase the efficiency of railway staff and attractive infotainment services to passengers.
In addition, Datacom, SDH and MSTP transmission networks, IP networks for urban railways as well as CCTV solutions, which are critical to the construction and operation of modern railway and metro infrastructure, were also showcased at the event.
