The volume of trade between Egypt and Greece has surged by 48.2% during 2013, said head of Greek-Egyptian Business Council Hani Berzi on Thursday.
In 2013, the trade volume between Egypt and Greece has reached €1.7 billion approximately, from €789.5 million last year.
During the Greek-Egyptian Business Forum kicked off today, Berzi referred to the presence of multiple and various investment opportunities between Egypt and Greece.
He stated that the high-profile Greek delegation currently visiting Egypt encompasses numerous investment opportunities in sectors of renewable energy, agriculture, industries, and maritime transport. Those sectors are pivotal to Egypt's economic revival in the coming phase, he noted.
The Forum is being organised by the Egyptian Businessmen Association in cooperation with the Greek embassy in Cairo, with the participation of 40 Greek companies and a group of Egyptian entrepreneurs.
At the Forum, participants will discuss ways to boost cooperation between Egyptian entrepreneurs and Greek companies, with bilateral meetings held between firms in numerous sectors, not just the food industry, including the production and processing of fruit and vegetables, but also numerous other energy, industrial and logistics-related sectors.
The Forum is being held in the context of a visit from a high-level Greek delegation led by Dimitris Kourkolas, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chris Lazaris, Greece's ambassador in Cairo.
During 2013, Egypt's exports to Greece inched up by 29.8% to €576.5 million, compared to €444.1 million last year.
In addition, Egypt's imports from Greece in 2013 jumped by 71.8% to €593.5 million, opposed to €345.4 million in 2012.
