Egypt's Customs Authority will require all air cargo shipments to be registered through the Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) system starting 1 January, a move aimed at reducing clearance times and cutting import-export costs for investors, its head said Wednesday. Ahmed Amawi told representatives from 250 companies in an open dialogue that the Ministry of Finance is pursuing a more targeted approach to ease trade burdens and boost the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy. "The goal is to simplify and automate customs procedures to lower the costs of importing and exporting," Amawi said. He added that a pilot version of the ACI system has been running since 2022 and will continue until the end of December to allow businesses time to comply. The system is expected to reduce document certification costs abroad, prevent shipment rejections due to non-compliance, and accelerate the submission of customs declarations, officials said. Importers, customs brokers, and air freight agents were urged to register through the government's Nafiza Platform at www.nafeza.gov.eg Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
