Egypt's New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) signed an agreement with a consortium comprising Japan's Yurtec Company, Egypt's Solar Installer, and REDCON Construction to establish a 20-megawatt solar power plant and a connected 30-megawatt-hour battery energy storage facility in Hurghada. The project, implemented under the framework of cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was witnessed on Wednesday by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat as part of the National Energy Strategy aimed at expanding renewable energy use and cutting carbon emissions. Expected to generate 48,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually — including 36,000 megawatt-hours from the solar plant and 12,000 megawatt-hours from the storage facility — the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 26,400 tons per year. The agreement also includes the establishment of an eco-friendly information and training centre designed as a Zero Energy Building that will rely primarily on renewable energy and focus on improving energy efficiency. The centre will be equipped with advanced facilities and serve as an international training hub for professionals in both the public and private sectors to promote the use of renewable energy technologies.
