Misr Chemical Industries Company (MCI) has signed a financing agreement to establish the first plant in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East for producing chlorine tablets and granules, in partnership with the private sector. The agreement was signed on Tuesday between PureDive for Chemical Production — a joint venture between the Chemical Industries Holding Company (CIHC), Misr Chemical Industries Company (MCI), and Energy Cadence for Engineering and Project Development — and a banking consortium comprising the Commercial International Bank (CIB) and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE). The two banks will provide financing worth $21.8 million and 255 million Egyptian pounds, representing 70.6 per cent of the project's total investment cost. With total investments of about $39 million, the project will produce 10,000 tons of chlorine tablets and granules (Trichloroisocyanuric Acid – TCCA) and 10,000 tons of Cyanuric Acid (CYA), used in swimming pool purification, water treatment, disinfection, and industrial applications such as paper and textile processing. It will also produce 18,000 tons of anhydrous ammonium sulphate, a high-quality agricultural fertiliser that supports national agricultural production. The project has received approval from the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, confirming full compliance with environmental standards. It will be implemented under the supervision of China's Capcom, the general contractor, with the Engineering Consulting Group (ECG) providing engineering consultancy and project oversight to ensure quality and efficiency. Minister of Public Enterprise Mohamed Shimi said the project represents a strategic step that strengthens Egypt's position as a regional and international player in the chemical industry.
