Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Chilean Ambassador in Cairo Roberto Ebert and a delegation from state-owned Enap Sipetrol to discuss expanding cooperation in energy and mining. The talks focused on oil production in partnership with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and explored potential collaboration in mining for the first time, leveraging Chile's expertise and Egypt's improving investment climate. Badawi highlighted nearly a century of close Egypt-Chile ties and outlined plans to diversify the energy mix, expand renewable projects, and increase petroleum reserves. On mining, he praised Chile's leadership in lithium and copper extraction and expressed Egypt's interest in developing critical minerals value chains, offering full support to investors. Ebert emphasised Chile's commitment to strengthening political and economic relations and the potential for mutual benefits from future cooperation. The meeting also addressed accelerating Enap Sipetrol's work in the West Amer area of the Eastern Desert, including drilling new wells and expanding exploration, while Chilean officials expressed interest in collaborating on lithium and other mineral extraction technologies.
