Egypt's trade with Uganda fell to $139.1 million in 2024 from $150.4 million a year earlier, Egypt's statistics agency CAPMAS said on Tuesday, ahead of talks in Cairo between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on boosting ties. Exports to Uganda eased to $112.8 million from $116.7 million in 2023, while imports declined to $26.3 million from $33.7 million. Key Egyptian exports included iron and steel worth $35 million, plastics at $12 million, sugar and confectionery at $8 million, cereal preparations at $7 million, and pharmaceuticals at $6 million. Uganda's top shipments to Egypt comprised dairy products ($10 million), coffee, tea and spices ($10 million), and tobacco ($6 million). Remittances from Egyptians in Uganda fell to $4.1 million in the 2023/24 fiscal year from $4.8 million a year earlier, while transfers from Ugandans in Egypt rose to $1 million from $706,000. Ugandan investments in Egypt dropped sharply to $1.9 million from $8.4 million, while Egyptian investments in Uganda increased to $3.3 million from $2.9 million. Egypt's population stood at 107.9 million in August 2025, compared with Uganda's 51.5 million. Around 865,000 Egyptians were living in Uganda at the end of 2023, CAPMAS said.
