Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched the first edition of its annual innovation competition Digitopia to discover and support talented youth and creative projects that advance the ICT sector, according to a Cabinet statement. The competition offers a grand prize of EGP1 million and total rewards worth EGP10 million, alongside specialised training opportunities in collaboration with local and global tech firms, according to the announcement. Digitopia targets a wide age range from primary school students (Grade 4) to youth aged 35, encouraging participants to develop implementable tech-based solutions for societal challenges. The competition covers areas such as software solutions, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital arts, and gaming. Activities for this inaugural edition will run throughout summer season of 2025, from August 1 to mid-October, with registration open until August 12. Organisers include the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Information Technology Institute (ITI), the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI), and Egypt University of Informatics (EUI). CIT Minister Amr Talaat said the competition aligns with the ministry's strategy to foster digital creativity and to spread a culture of innovation across schools, universities, and among graduates.
