Egypt's Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk met with Mauritius' Minister of Commerce Michael Yeung Sik Yuen in Geneva to discuss enhancing cooperation on the supply of essential commodities and securing strategic food reserves. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Trade and Development in Spain. The two sides explored activating a joint government mechanism to facilitate the export of Egyptian strategic goods—especially vegetable oils, flour, and sugar—and considered signing future supply agreements to meet Mauritius' market needs. Talks also focused on Egypt's industrial expertise in sugar production, with discussions on establishing integrated sugar cane-processing plants in Mauritius to produce sugar, fodder, ethanol, yeast, and paper. Farouk highlighted Egypt's advanced digital systems for managing commodity distribution and maintaining strategic reserves, which contribute to market stability by balancing supply and demand. He affirmed Egypt's readiness to deliver high-quality food products at competitive prices through state-affiliated producers and proposed the formation of a joint technical working group to follow up on implementation. The meeting reflects Egypt's efforts to deepen economic ties across Africa and expand its exports to promising new markets. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
