Egypt's trade with BRICS nations rose 19.5 per cent in 2024 to $50.8 billion, up from $42.5 billion in 2023, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Sunday. Egypt officially joined the BRICS bloc in January 2024 alongside Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, and Ethiopia. Indonesia followed in January 2025. Egyptian exports to BRICS countries reached $9.4 billion in 2024, a 10.6 per cent increase from $8.5 billion in 2023. Saudi Arabia was the top importer with $3.4 billion, followed by the UAE, Brazil, Russia, India, China, Indonesia, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Iran. Meanwhile, imports from BBRICS members reached $41.4 billion in 2024, up 21.8 per cent from $34 billion in 2023. China topped the list with $15.5 billion, followed by Saudi Arabia, Russia, Brazil, India, UAE, Indonesia, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Iran. The UAE led with $38.9 billion, followed by Saudi Arabia ($775.5 million), China ($629.5 million), South Africa ($124.6 million), Russia ($91.5 million), and India ($26 million). While, the Egyptian investments in BRICS reached $1.7 billion during the same period. Remittances of Egyptian expats in BRICS nations reached $9.8 billion in FY 2023/2024, down from $10.4 billion the previous year. Saudi Arabia led with $8 billion, followed by the UAE ($1.8 billion), China ($19.5 million), India ($7.9 million), South Africa ($5.8 million), Indonesia ($5.1 million), Brazil ($2.9 million), Russia ($1.9 million), Ethiopia ($783,000), and Iran ($19,000). Meanwhile, remittances from BRICS nationals working in Egypt totalled $76.2 million, down from $98.5 million. The UAE topped the list with $31.6 million, followed by India ($19.6 million), Saudi Arabia ($11.6 million), South Africa ($6.1 million), Indonesia ($3.6 million), China ($3.1 million), Brazil ($605,000), Ethiopia ($97,000), and Russia ($71,000).
