Alexandria Shipyard on Tuesday commissioned a powerful tugboat named Ismailia 1 for the Suez Canal Authority, as part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to localise national industries under presidential directives. The tug, classified as model N 113, has a bollard pull capacity of 190 tons. It measures 71.6 metres in length, 18.5 metres in width, and has a draft of seven metres. The vessel can reach a speed of 16 knots. During the launch ceremony, Rear Admiral Hossam El Din Kotb, chairman of Alexandria Shipyard, said the project marked an unprecedented achievement in Egypt and the Middle East's shipbuilding industry. He described it as a testament to Egypt's ability to produce vessels that meet the highest global standards, affirming that Alexandria Shipyard would now carry the "Made in Egypt" label to international horizons. Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie praised the collaboration, describing the tug as a high-quality national product that matches international counterparts.
