URGENT: GPC announces new discovery in Abu Sennan
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 12 - 06 - 2025

Egypt's General Petroleum Company (GPC) has made a new oil discovery, GPR-1X, in the mature fields of the Abu Sennan area in the Western Desert, the Egyptian Petroleum Ministry announced on Sunday.
Initial results show the well is producing up to 1,400 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd) and about 1 million cubic feet of gas per day from the Bahariya layer, in addition to adding 2 million recoverable barrels to reserves.
The discovery comes as part of the first pillar of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to boost local production and maximise the potential of mature fields.
Company Chairman Mohamed Abdel Meguid said the well is currently undergoing testing at the production station, noting that promising oil indicators were also observed through electric logging in the Abu Rawash G and B layers.
Notably, this marks the second discovery in the area over the past three months, following the GPS discovery in March, which was made utilising artificial intelligence technologies developed by the company's team.
