Egypt will implement carefully planned expansions in grain storage capacity across the governorates in the coming period, as part of a broader state strategy to enhance the national food security system and increase resilience to global supply chain disruptions, according to Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Shereef Farouk. The minister made the remarks while chairing the general assembly of the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage, which convened to review and approve the proposed budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The meeting was attended by members of the general assembly and the company's board of directors. Discussions covered the company's financial and operational performance, with a particular focus on the progress made in upgrading grain silo infrastructure nationwide. The meeting also reviewed future plans to raise the efficiency of the storage system, optimise silo capacity utilisation, minimise waste, and improve the quality of stored grains. Farouk highlighted the strategic importance of the Holding Company for Silos and Storage as a key pillar in safeguarding the country's strategic reserves of grain. He called for continued investment in advanced silo management technologies and stronger oversight mechanisms to ensure the quality and efficiency of storage operations. He also stressed the need for close coordination between the board and the general assembly to monitor performance indicators, meet operational targets, and enhance human resource capabilities, while adhering to the highest standards of governance and prudent management.
