Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty on Wednesday met with Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) Michael Spindelegger, to review Egypt's comprehensive approach to immigration, which takes into account humanitarian, political and security dimensions. Abdel-Aty stressed the priority Egypt places on promoting regular labour emigration, particularly towards the European job market. On the sidelines of the second ministerial meeting of the Khartoum Process, hosted in Cairo, Abdel-Aty highlighted the significant burdens Egypt bears in hosting nearly 10 million migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. He underlined the importance of applying the principle of burden- and responsibility-sharing and expressed Egypt's aspiration for increased support for its national development programmes, which are crucial for sustaining services for migrants, refugees, and host communities. For his part, the ICMPD Director General expressed appreciation for Egypt's hosting of the ministerial meeting and commended Egypt's leadership of the Khartoum Process over the past year, including its efforts in preparing and coordinating the Cairo conference.
