Afghanistan National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) announced on Sunday that the Global Environment Facility has allocated $9.98 million to address climate change and safeguard natural resources in the country. The fund supports initiatives promoting flexible agriculture, restoring degraded lands, sustainable resource management, expanding grasslands, pastures, and modern irrigation systems in northern Badakhshan and eastern Kunar province. The NEPA report warns that climate change is a significant threat to Afghanistan, with temperatures in the south increasing 2.4 degrees Celsius in the past century. This has led to water scarcity, affecting 21 million Afghans, or nearly half the population. Attribution: Xinhua Subediting: M. S. Salama
