Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered nearly $500 million in illicit funds and secured over 4,000 convictions in 2024, its highest tally since its establishment. The agency said some of the recovered assets were reinvested in government projects. Nigeria, Africa's largest oil producer, has long battled corruption, ranking 140 out of 180 on Transparency International's latest index. In addition to cash, the EFCC seized over 931,000 metric tons of petroleum products, nearly 1,000 real estate properties, and company shares. Attribution: Reuters Subediting: M. S. Salama
