The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman, Osama Rabie announced on Sunday the establishment of Egypt's first floating concrete pontoon manufacturing facility at Canal Ports Company, a SCA affiliate. This milestone project aims to support the localisation of marine unit production while significantly reducing reliance on imports. Rabie made the announcement during the 14th International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (MARLOG 14). He emphasised that the new factory will specialise in building floating pontoons for yacht marinas and small vessel docks, offering a cost-effective alternative that is 40 per cent cheaper than imported pontoons. Strengthening Egypt's Marine Industry Rabie highlighted SCA's ongoing efforts to develop a robust domestic marine manufacturing sector. The authority has already made significant strides in tugboat production, with various models being built at its shipyards in partnership with the private sector. Additionally, SCA's shipyards and subsidiaries have extensive expertise in constructing patrol boats, floating docks, ferries, and marine bridges, he noted. The latest project aligns with Egypt's broader strategy to enhance local industrial capabilities, reduce import dependency, and expand the maritime infrastructure needed to support the growing demand for marine services.
