China's consumer price index (CPI), a key measure of inflation, increased 0.5 per cent year-on-year in January 2025, according to a statement published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Sunday. This was a rise from the 0.1 per cent growth seen in the previous month, mainly attributed to the impact of the Spring Festival holiday, as stated by NBS statistician Dong Lijuan, as per the statement. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, also rose 0.6 per cent compared to the previous year in January, up from the 0.4 per cent increase in December 2024, the statement added.
