Egypt signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Wednesday, to enhance cooperation on public and private sector projects. The MoU, signed by Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, and Mark Davis, EBRD's Regional Director, aims to provide technical support to Egypt in implementing public-private partnership (PPP) projects in sectors like transport, energy, and healthcare. Prime Minister, Mustafa Madbouly, emphasised that the MoU will focus on building institutional capacity, providing technical assistance, and facilitating the financing and implementation of PPPs across key sectors. Minister Al-Mashat highlighted the EBRD's ongoing support, noting the €1.5 billion investment in 26 projects in 2024, 98 per cent of which targeted the private sector. Since Egypt became an operational country for the EBRD in 2012, the country has received €13.8 billion in investments for 194 projects, with 80 per cent directed to the private sector. Egypt is set to host the EBRD's 2027 Annual Meetings, marking a milestone that further solidifies its strategic role in the bank. The event underscores Egypt's growing importance within the EBRD and its pivotal position in fostering multilateral financial cooperation and development efforts across the region and globally.
