Egypt's Foreign Affairs Minister Badr Abdel-Aty praised the World Intellectual Property Organisation's (WIPO) view of intellectual property as a key driver of sustainable development, innovation, job creation, investment, and global problem-solving. Minister Abdel-Aty made these remarks during a meeting with Daren Tang, Director-General of WIPO in Geneva on Monday. He praised Egypt's progress in intellectual property (IP), noting the establishment of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority. He emphasised Egypt's commitment to achieving these goals through the implementation of its National Intellectual Property Strategy, particularly its third pillar focused on maximising the economic returns of intellectual property. Furthermore, he expressed Egypt's aspiration to continue fruitful cooperation with WIPO to support the new authority's pillars and build the capacities of Egyptian professionals working in IP-related fields. He also commended the collaborative programmes implemented between WIPO and various national entities in recent years, including the Ministries of Justice, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, as well as the National Council for Women. Tang admired Egypt's rich culture and heritage, mentioning his meeting with the Egyptian President during his visit in September 2022 and attending the launch event of the National Intellectual Property Strategy with the Prime Minister.
