Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 15 - 01 - 2025

Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed on Wednesday the inauguration of Geely's new car assembly plant in 6th of October City, an event hosted by Auto Mobility, according to a Cabinet statement.
Prime Minister Madbouly underscored the importance of this development in strengthening Egypt's industrial sector, particularly the automotive industry, which plays a critical role in the global economy. He also noted that this investment marks Geely's first industrial venture in both Egypt and the broader regions of Africa and the Middle East, showcasing the growing confidence of foreign investors in Egypt's business environment.
Fahad Ali Al Ghanim, Chairman of Auto Mobility, emphasised that localising Geely's car production aligns with Egypt's broader strategy to advance the automotive industry, boost the economy, and create new employment opportunities. He also highlighted that the company's total investment in the sector now stands at $250 million.
At the event, Geely unveiled its first models from the new plant—the 2025 Emgrand sedan and the 2025 Coolray SUV—while revealing plans to export vehicles to the Middle East and Africa. This expansion is expected to strengthen local supplier networks and increase foreign currency earnings.
Song Jin, Geely's CEO, pointed out the company's rapid growth in Egypt, including the establishment of more than 40 sales and service centres nationwide. He also noted that the new CKD (completely knocked down) plant, the first of its kind in the region, adheres to global manufacturing standards. The facility is equipped with dual-model flexible production lines for both sedans and SUVs, marking a significant milestone in Geely's local operations and its commitment to maintaining high quality.
Geely has already localised 14 major car components, achieving a local content rate of over 45 per cent, with plans for further increases in the future.
