The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $200 million loan to upgrade water supply, sanitation, urban mobility, and other urban services in Uttarakhand state, India. The project aims to enhance quality of life and climate resilience in the region, focusing on improving transport, drainage, flood management, and public services in Haldwani. Additionally, the project will enhance water supply systems in Champawat, Kichha, Kotdwar, and Vikasnagar. The initiative aims to empower women by providing training in driving buses, bus ticketing, and operating electric charging stations. It will also enhance women's capacity in managing water supply systems and sanitation services, particularly in vulnerable households. Additionally, the project will involve women in community engagement for water bill distribution and collection in four towns. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing $191 million in co-financing, with the state government contributing $74.9 million, making the total project cost $465.9 million.
