EU earmarks over €380m to LIFE projects for Europe green transition

The European Commission announced on Monday over €380 million in grants for 133 new projects across Europe under the LIFE Programme for environment and climate action, a move aimed to support the green transition all around the continent.
The total investment for these initiatives amounts to €574 million, with the remainder coming from national, regional, and local governments, public-private partnerships, businesses, and civil society organisations.
The funding targets projects aligns with the European Green Deal's goals, including achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.
Key allocations include €143 million for circular economy initiatives, €216 million for nature and biodiversity projects, €110 million for climate resilience efforts, and €105 million for accelerating the clean energy transition.
Highlighted projects include Italy's LIFE GRAPhiREC, which aims to recycle graphite from battery waste, and the Canary Islands' DESALIFE, focused on water resilience through desalination.
Other initiatives will support climate adaptation in agriculture, like protecting vineyards in Spain, France, and Italy, and advancing sustainable energy models across Europe.
