Egypt's Planning Meets With Singaporean Ambassador To Discuss Economic Cooperation

Amr Darrag, Egyptian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, has received the Singaporean Ambassador to Cairo Tan Hung Seng to discuss the ways of joint cooperation and expanding the partnership horizons between the two countries amid the economic and technical cooperation agreement signed between Egypt and Singapore in 2004.
The meeting handled the most significant future fields of cooperation like the information technologies fields and electronics, the chemical industries, managing the ports and airports, the small and medium enterprises as well as constructing the free industrial zones. Singapore has achieved tangible development in these fields; therefore Egypt seeks to make use of these experiences by organizing courses for the Egyptian cadres in order to study in the institutions, centers and universities in Singapore.
Darrag had made reference to the necessity of boosting the foreign investments in Egypt as the Singaporean investments amounted to $ 19.44 million till 2011, in the framework of Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (BIPA) signed in 1997. This could be carried out through holding forums between the Egyptian and Singaporean businessmen in order to recognize the capabilities available for each side and encourage them on establishing joint ventures.
He also referred to the necessity of boosting the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
On his part, the Singaporean Ambassador said he understands the current economic states that Egypt facing in the wake of the 25th January revolution; affirming that the Singaporean government is keen on enhancing the cooperation in the coming period.
